Basking Ridge

Ricola, famous for its great tasting, natural herbal cough and throat drops, is returning as the title sponsor for the second annual Twilight Grand Prix bike race to be held on Wednesday evening, May 28, 2008, in the heart of historic Basking Ridge, NJ. This elite-level men’s bike race is likely to draw more than 100 professional and amateur cyclists, including members of some of the top regional and national cycling teams.

This year’s race will offer one of the largest prize purses available in cycling on the east coast, with racers competing for $10,000 in cash and prizes.

The race, expected to last approximately one hour, will consist of 40 laps around a challenging 1.1 mile course that features several hairpin turns and a slight hill to the finish line. Racers will feel their heart rates climb as they accelerate out of each corner, often reaching speeds in excess of 35 miles per hour. The race will start and finish in front of BaseCamp Adventure Outfitters on So. Finley Avenue, Basking Ridge’s main thoroughfare.

Entertainment for spectators will begin at 5:00pm (one hour prior to race start) and will include performances by the Bonnie Brae Knights Drum Corp. and the Ricola Swiss Alphorns, a BMX Aerial Trickster show by Giant, Food and Drink, and special giveaways.

The start/finish area will offer optimal race and entertainment viewing, race announcers and shopping at several shops and restaurants. The event is free for all spectators and $50 for pre-registered pro/1/2 category racers.
